Portfolio of Michael James, L’Oréal ID Artist

Michael James began hairdressing in 2003 with an apprenticeship in East Devon and has been working in the area ever since. In December 2005 Michael James was awarded the "Aston & Fincher Apprentice Award for Hair Level 2".

In September 2006 Michael entered the L’Oréal Professionnel Talentspotting competition with his entry "Fairytale Romance". Being the first hairdresser competition that Michael had ever entered he was overwhelmed when the judges announced that he was the Western Winner at the regional finals in Swindon. "I'm completely elated" said Michael, "I really didn't expect to get this far".

Over the next month, Michael, along with four other finalists, went on the L’Oréal Exposure Tour to Rome where they watched amazing shows by Hairdresser's Zeo Baldi & Royston Blythe and got to spend the day with Trevor Sorbie at his salon in Covent Garden where they learned the art of working with cameras on stage.

Michael also became a Semi-Finalist at Talentspotting 2007 with his attention grabbing show, "Ich Bin Kunst".

At the beginning of 2008 Michael successfully auditioned his model for the L’Oréal Professionnel ID Artist program and found out shortly after that he would be joining the L’Oréal ID Artist program in February 2008. Michael has since worked on the s/s '08 (Extravaganza) & a/w '08/'09 (Thriller) Catwalk Showcases. Soon after Michael was assisting session stylists backstage at Graduate Fashion Week at Earls Court and session styling at Fashion Showcase Wales in Cardiff. He later had an unforgetable experience on the L’Oréal Professionnel exposure tour in Barcelona with shows by Zeba and Westrow.

After a busy year Michael is looking forward to another fun filled and busy 2009.
